Diminishing Nor'Easter... Awaiting True Autumn Weather... Social "Hub"
The weak low pressure east of Jax resulting in a weak to moderate Nor'easter kept cloud cover hanging tough across the First Coast Tue. Moisture will remained trapped in the mid & especially lower levels through Wed. morning. So Wed. will again begin on a rather drab note with low clouds & even some patchy drizzle & mist. While winds won't be as strong, there will still be a cool E/NE breeze. Enough dry air should finally mix through the atmosphere to allow for some afternoon sun which will send temps. to 80+ inland. The beaches will stay cooler in the 70s.
The First Coast will then be in for a serious warm-up as temps. jump well into the 80s Thu. & Fri. Winds will be from the southeast, so the beaches will still be cooler -- mostly in the upper 70s to perhaps lower 80s as water temps. have dipped into the 70s. A weak cool front will move into the area over the weekend which should trigger at least scattered showers but not all day rains. It looks like the front will hang out near the area into early next week continuing the chance for some rain with a gradual cooling trend.
And so we're getting close to what I like to call "true fall" -- when temps. can become cooler for a sustained period (despite our very warm end to this week). Check out these numbers:
* the avg. high temp. falls below 80 degrees (79) Oct. 21st.
* & we can sometimes get frost in Oct. The earliest widespread frost in Duval Co. occurred Oct. 29th, 2008 when the temp. dropped to 33 degrees (that's the coldest temp. on record in Oct. going back to 1870 in Jax). The 2nd coldest mornings were Oct. 18th, 1977 & Oct. 21st, 1989 @ 36 degrees.
So based on climatology, true fall is indeed just around the corner.
