A light inland freeze/frost early Fri. & especially early Sat. as our weather pattern has made the expected shift to a much cooler regime.  Expect cold night & cool days through Mon. with just a few clouds from time to time with the passage of weak front & upper level disturbances.  There will be some slow warming by the middle of next week.  I don't see any appreciable rain through next weekend.
The coldest temps. will be west of I-95 early Fri. -- near 30.....with mid to upper 30s closer to the coast.  Temps. will be a few degrees lower early Sat. but still above freezing for the intracoastal & beaches.

The transition to colder temps. for the Eastern U.S. was accompanied by the severe storm outbreak I posted about Wed.  The Peachtree, Ga. N.W.S. office has posted a detailed write-up --  including graphics & radar imagery -- about the outbreak along with an initial storm survey of what was a powerful EF-3 tornado (Adairsville) northwest of Atlanta -- click ** here **.  You can also find video ** here" from the Action News website.... ** here ** for photos. An interesting sidenote: the 1 tornado death was the first tornado fatality in the U.S. in 219 days (since June 24th, 2012 when tropical storm "Debby" spawned a killer tornado in Highland Co., Fl.).  That's the longest such stretch since reliable records started in 1950 (197 days was the old record).

We turn the calendars Fri. to February.  Below are the monthly #'s for JIA:

A coronal mass ejection (CME) on Jan. 31, 2013 was accompanied by a large prominence eruption best visible in light with a wavelength of 304 angstroms. NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory captured this footage from 10 p.m. EST on Jan. 30, 2013, to 4 a.m. the next morning. In this video, the imaging cadence is one frame every 36 seconds.
