A nice break from the daily heavy afternoon storms Tue. as temps. aloft turned a little warmer. A few storms will pop Wed. then increase again Thu. & Fri. Temps. will stay hot with highs in the 90s & heat indices 100+.

August is in the books. Temps. were right at avg. -- 81.8 degrees. Rainfall at JIA was a bit below avg. at 5.95" -- -0.85" but -- as is often the case in the summer months -- amounts varied a great deal -- see the table below provided by our Jax N.W.S. Highlights included an EF-2 tornado in Arlington on the 1st & a waterspout near Green Cove Srpings on the 22nd. Only 2 tropical cyclones developed during the month. "Erin" & "Fernand" were short-lived tropical storms that did no signifcant damage.

One example of just how wet it has been in some places....from a viewer in Raiford, Fl. (Union Co.) - 51.3" of rain has fallen this year with an impressive 37" in just the past 4 months! The beaches are typically drier (sea breeze often pushes inland during the summer). Jax Beach is a good example with 39.96" so far this year. The avg. annual rainfall at JIA is near 52" & totals 36.45" for the year.
