A hot, humid week ahead with scattered afternoon t'storms that will become more numerous as we go through the week.
Several interesting topics in the tropics:
** "Isaac" is just about to go full circle(!). The circulation is still clearly visible moving into Ky. Mon. evening. While the surface low is weakening, the upper level mid & upper level circulation (disturbance) should stay intact & drop to the Gulf Coast west of Jacksonville (coastal Al., Fl. Panhandle) by mid to late week -- a full week after landfall on the La. coast! Forecast models even develop a weak surface low over the NE Gulf late in the week. At the moment, the low appears to be weak, but it's something to keep an eye on the next several days. The low could enhance showers & storms across the First Coast Thu.-Fri.
** "Leslie" is well north & northeast of Puerto Rico in the Central Atlantic. Struggling against pretty strong shear, "Leslie" has the potential to strengthen later this week once it's clear of the shear. Though hundreds of miles to the east of Jacksonville Wed.-Thu., the storm's large circulation + possible strengthening will send an easterly swell to our First Coast beaches causing a high rip current risk. Surf will increase to 3-5 feet but well offshore will be 7'+. "Leslie" could be a problem for Bermuda & eventually Newfoundland.
** Tropical depression #13 has been "found" in the E. Atlantic via satellite but looks pretty weak. No problem for any land areas.
** There are signs that the deep tropics (African waves) become active again next week.

Interesting story on "60 Minutes" Sun. night (replayed from spring) regarding math & teaching the subject. It's Kahn University & is a pretty fascinating concept innocently started on the internet using YouTube. Click here for the story.
My dad forwarded me an interesting email about the "elephant whisperer". I'm a big fan of elephants & while the story about the whisper's passing & how a herd of elephants paid their respects is not necessarily known to be fact, it's still good reading (as are Lawrence Anthony's books) -- click here.
