Our next storm system is fast approaching as it organizes over Tx. & the Western Gulf of Mexico.  Warmer, more humid air is streaming north & east well ahead of the storm & will trigger a few showers during the day Thu. into Thu. evening with most of the showers closer to the coast & over SE Ga.  Amounts with this activity will not be great -- generally less than a quarter of an inch for the metro area & beaches to .25 to a half inch over SE Ga.  The heavy rain arrives late Fri.-Fri. night.  The large band of rain will be moving swiftly which will help with total rainfall, but I still expect 100% coverage with amounts averaging a half inch to 1.5", locally 2"+.  The storm will quickly move away over the weekend with gusty winds & chilly temps. Sat.-Sun.  I don't believe we have to worry about severe storms with this system, but it'll be another soaker.
The same storm will produce a wide area of heavy snow & ice from the Plains all the way to the East Coast including D.C., Philly, NYC & Boston.  The map below shows advisories, watches & warnings in effect which will expand as we get closer to late week.

This storm will also bring rain to Miami but mainly Sat. so Super Bowl Sun. looks o.k. but cool.  Kickoff for the Super Bowl: Partly cloudy...NW breeze 5-10 mph...temp. in the 60s falling into the 50s during the game.

Action News viewer Tony Combs sent me a few photos that his father forwarded him from Ca. a couple of weeks ago when the Golden State was getting pounded by storm after storm.  The first photo is a tornado in Huntington that did do some damage...#2 is the angry Pacific at Pismo Beach Pier...#3 is flooding in Santa Maria...#4 is hail in San Luis Obisco.
