Another strong storm system brought another round of heavy rain & a few strong storms.  Winds gusted as high as 63 mph at JIA with numerous wind gusts early Mon. between 40 & 50 mph.  Just minor tree & power line damage but a tornado warning was issued for parts of Clay & Duval Co.  The warning was issued for a pretty strong circulation that first wound up near Middleburg in Clay Co.  The storm moved northeast into Duval Co. & -- though the circulation had weakened some -- moved near UNF & Arlington exiting near Amelia Island.  Despite the strong winds, damage was minor.  The doppler radar image below was sent to me courtesy Mike Davis, an avid & educated "virtual" storm chaser.  The circulation is south of American Beach near Black Hammock Island & just north of Mapyort.  Green is wind moving toward the radar sight...red is wind moving away.  In this radar image, the circulation isn't all that "tight" though still evident but probably elevated (at least several thousand feet aloft).

Speaking of storms & our N.W.S....they've posted a storm summary -- including radar images & photos -- from last Thu.'s severe storm outbreak -- click here.

So our active weather pattern continues.  The next storm will roll into the First Coast Fri. night & Sat. with a round of heavy rain.  Early indications are that instability will be limited so t'storms may not be much of a problem.  Heavy rain could, however, cause some localized flooding.  On the backside of this storm, cold air will plunge deep into the Southeast making for a very chilly weekend for the First Coast.  In the meantime, it'll be cool the next few mornings but only a light freeze at worst for some inland spots.
