The arctic air is moving away & will be replaced by a quick warm-up.  Highs in the 50s at the beaches & 60s inland Thu. will be tempered by gusty onshore east to northeast winds, plenty of cloudiness & even a few showers.  Temps. will be much warmer Fri. & especially Sat. with highs soaring into the 70s Fri. (60s @ the beaches)... & in the mid 70s to around 80 Sat.

A pretty strong storm system will spread rain across the First Coast Sat. afternoon & evening.  It looks like a solid band of rain with a few embedded t'storms will cross the area from west to east between noon Sat. & midnight.  Everyone should get at least some rain & the question comes down to timing.  So plan on rain for at least parts of Sat. -- heavy at times.  The storm & front should clear the area by Sunday leaving cooler -- but still nice -- temps. with plenty of sun.

There continue to be indications of a surge of cold air for the middle of next week but models are a bit at odds on intensity & exact timing.

Jan. has started out quite differently than Dec. -- a very warm, dry month.  Jan. averages @ JIA:
                                                         1st                                             31st
Low / High                                         41 / 65                                        42 / 66
SR / SS                                      7:23am / 5:37pm                           7:18am / 6:03pm - gain 31 min. of daylight
Rain: 3.30"

Dec. was much warmer than avg. with most areas near I-95 to the beaches not seeing freezing temps. all month.  The avg. temp. of 59.9 degrees was 4.7 degrees above avg. -- the 25th warmest on record (going back to 1871).  The 0.86" of rain was 1.94" below avg.
The maps below from our Jax N.W.S. shows the percent of normal Dec. rainfall.... the bottom map is the percent of normal rainfall for all of 2013.
