A large upper level trough of low pressure over the W. Atlantic has helped develop a weak surface low just east of Jax. This development is briefly enhancing the "local" Nor'easter with gusty east to northeast winds for the beaches & coast with sustained winds of 15-20 mph but gusts as high as 30 mph. A very heavy area of showers just north of the surface low is pinwheeling westward & -- while it should weaken with time -- could still bring some heavy rain from Mayport to Jax Beach to Ponte Vedra to St. Augustine & nearby areas. This heavier rain should weaken as it moves inland but could get as far inland as I-95. Showers -- overall -- should weaken & become more scattered this afternoon/evening.
West of I-95 & especially west of Highway 301 & for much of SE Ga., this little low/"local" Nor'easter will have less of an impact. Skies will become partly cloudy with breezy northeast winds as temps. reach the low 80s vs. the 70s near the coast.
Weather will improve Wed. as the Nor'easter breaks down & moves away allowing temps. to begin to warm. Highs Wed. in the low to mid 80s will reach the mid to upper 80s Thu./Fri.So in a nutshell:
* not a very nice day today at the beaches: gusty (15-20 mph sustained, gusrts to 30-35 mph) onshore winds, rough seas/surf, rip currents & occasional rain that will be heavy at times. Rainfall could reach 1"+ locally. Conditions generally improving later in the day as temps. only top out in the 70s.
* From I-95 to the intracoastal: Periods of mostly light rain & showers, breezy & cloudy. A burst of heavier showers will be possible from mid morning to early afternoon then less rain by later in the day. Rainfall averaging a tenth to a third of an inch but locally up to .5-.75". Breezy northeast winds with highs in the upper 70s to around 80.
* West of I-95: Spotty drizzle & light rain with a tenth of an inch or less of accumulation. Some sun this afternoon...breezy north/northeast winds as temps. top out in the lower 80s.
