A 1-2 sequence of weather events will make for pretty big temp. changes Fri. through the weekend. Thu. by far will be the mildest day of the next several with highs well into the 70s. A cold front will roll through the area early Fri. accompanied by showers with many areas getting rain but with paltry amounts -- a quarter of an inch or less (mostly far less). Gusty northwest winds Fri. will usher in cooler air that will be especially noticeable over the weekend. Strong high pressure will move into the Northeast causing a strong northeast onshore wind -- 10-20 mph inland but 15-25 mph with higher gusts at & near the beaches & St. Johns River. High temps. Sat. & Sun. will struggle just to get out of the 60s. This "local" Nor'easter will again cause rough seas & surf & a high rip current risk that will linger into Monday.

THE SALVATION ARMY HAS IMMEDIATE NEED FOR DONATED TURKEYS FOR HOLIDAY MEAL PROGRAMS
(JACKSONVILLE, FL) The Salvation Army has issued a call to residents of the First Coast to remember the needs of the less fortunate this Thanksgiving. The Salvation Army is making a plea for immediate donations of turkeys to supplement the Thanksgiving Food Boxes and Thanksgiving Homeless Meal on November 24. The Salvation Army is accepting turkeys purchased from local supermarkets or cash donations to purchase turkeys.
"We are so grateful to those friends in our community who have stepped forward with faithful support for families and individuals struggling to make ends meet," said Major Dean Hinson, Area Commander for The Salvation Army of NE Florida. "But unfortunately the number of people needing help keeps escalating and the amount of public support is just not keeping pace."
In the past, The Salvation Army relied on turkey donations from a large food service vendor. The Salvation Army recently learned the company would not be donating turkeys again this season. “Everyone has been affected by the economy, many companies just can’t donate the way they have in the past,” said Hinson. He went on to say The Salvation Army is confident that the community will pull together and lend a helping hand to those who need it most.
If you can help, The Salvation Army is currently accepting turkeys purchased from local supermarkets or cash donations. Together, we can bless everyone with a hot and hearty holiday meal this season.

Remember the Decorah, Iowa bald eagle that was on a live cam much of the winter? While briefly home over the weekend, the front page of the Cedar Rapids Gazette had a story about how the tagged eagle moved north for the summer residing in the Western Great Lakes but now is seemingly headed back to his winter perch in Iowa moving southward through Wisconsin (tracked with a solar powered transmitter!). Click here for the story....click here to see a map of the eagle's travels (from raptor resource).
