Clark Howard: Auto insurance
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- There's so much auto advertising for this auto insurer or that one, each telling you that they're the best one for you to be with.
Well I wanted to give you a look into really who is superior. Consumer Reports rates auto insurers roughly every two years. The same two companies come in at the top of the heap survey after survey.
The only difference is which is number one and which is number two -- they are Amica Mutual and USAA.
USAA is for military personnel and retirees and their dependents. Believe it or not, tens of millions of Americans fit those categories to be USAA-insured.
You've got to have a really good driving history to be with Amica.
I never really hear complaints from either companies.
One thing about any auto insurance company -- raise your deductibles, don't go with low deductibles because you do not want to make small claims. Raising your deductible will get that temptation out of you and lower your premiums.
