JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- I was talking to an athlete recently who was talking about one of the hardest things for her as an athlete is that she has an unusual foot to fit a shoe to; she is now spending a fortune buying custom shoes.
Now I've got great news for her -- the technology for making custom shoes that is rolling out more and more to high-end athletes, is going to be available to all of us in a matter of months or even a couple of years because of 3-D printing.
New Balance, the big running shoe company, is now using 3-D printing to make custom fitted shoes for the individual, first for the professional athlete at high cost. But because the technology is advancing so fast, it won't be long until you and I can get exact custom fitted shoes for whatever activity we engage in.
Your feet will be smiling and so will your wallet.
