Clark Howard: Prescription medicines
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- I have great news for when you have to fill a prescription medicine. Thanks to an obscure Supreme Court ruling making far more generic drugs available sooner, it's gotten a whole lot easier for you to save money on prescriptions.
And I've got to tell you, Americans are getting smarter and smarter about how they fill prescriptions. Because when you go to the doctor, you know to ask your doctor now for a generic instead of a brand name. At least more people do.
And one of the things I recommend is to take the discount prescription list from your favorite pharmacy. Many of them have it.
The big stores like Walmart and Target have these lists of what they call their $4 prescriptions. And you take that into the doctor and when he or she wants to write a scrip, ask them to write from that.
Today, the choices available are much wider and the money you save, gigantic.
And by the way, a tip for you. Generics are priced differently at all different stores. The more you shop for your prescription, the more you save, it could be huge. For more information go to ClarkHoward.com.
