JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The 'in' thing now in retailing is we match all of our competitors' prices.
I was in an electronics store recently and they had a huge banner as I walked in that said we match all competitors prices online and in-store. So here's the thing, Bloomberg reports a lot of times when you try to get a store to match the price, they won't.
In fact, one of the big chains has a store price-match policy that is over a thousand words long. They have one exception after another. Just because they say they'll price match, doesn't mean they will.
But what should you do: You're in a store and more than half of us carry smart phones; find that cheaper price somewhere else.
You ask for the store manager and you show it to him or her. They may then want to verify on their own computer.
Then remind them if they don't price match now, you may not even come in the store to check them out the next time.
