JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Federal Trade Commission is cracking down on search engine websites because it's getting harder to identify advertisements from search results. Consumer advisor Clark Howard tells you what tricks the big search engines are using.

They said, "Did you realize that was an ad and not my content?" and I have it pretty well marked.

Well according to the FTC, if you go to a search engine and you start typing in looking for information, which is where a lot of people are looking on the web today, that people don't realize that at lot of the stuff that pops up, especially at first are ads and not search results.

In that case it's not clear like it is on my website. I want you to be really, really careful when you use Google or Bing or any other search engine and know if actually what you're looking at is real content or an ad. Protect yourself.
