Clark Howard: Stolen cars
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Every year, the insurance industry puts out lists of the most stolen cars and it's not what you think.
A lot of the cars are from the 1990's: Honda Civics, Honda Accords, Acura Integra, older Chevy pickups, and older Nissan Sentras. Why? Well often, people are stealing them for the parts, because they end up to be more valuable as hard to find parts than for the car itself.
But I want to share something with you. Recently, I was at a convenience store. I park the car and I realize that the car next to me is running, unlocked and nobody in it. This happens all the time.
You talk to police, and you'll find how many cars are stolen were either unlocked or had the keys in them. Or either, somebody is just running into the dry cleaner, or somebody is just trying to run in and get a gallon of milk. They leave the car on and unlocked.
