Clark Howard: Sugar tax
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- In Mexico they're doing something that they're talking about doing in the United State: taxing or putting restrictions in place on buying soft drinks or other beverages that have sugar in them.
In the case of Mexico, they're looking at raising the cost of the beverage roughly about 20 percent with what's being labeled the sugar tax.
I polled the people who go to ClarkHoward.com, and overwhelmingly, people said they were opposed.
But let me tell you what Mexico is up to.
In fact in Mexico, roughly one in six adults has adult onset diabetes.
The most important thing for you and me to know is that having too much high-calorie and high-sugar food and drink is bad for our health. And, we need to take care of ourselves. We don't need the government to do it.
