JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- There are apps for your smartphone that are free to download but could end up costing you hundreds of dollars if you're not careful.
Apple recently settled a lawsuit where children were able to take a parents ipad, or iphone, or ipod touch and run up massive charges playing a supposedly free game.
So now if you've noticed with apple, when you go to pay money for an app or an add-on to an app, they make you sign in to your account again.
And you, as a parent, need to remember not to give your kids access to that sign in. You're going to get a little bit of money, maybe from apple for past charges, not a whole lot maybe five bucks or ten bucks.
But the big news for you is when you go to look at what's going on with androids and iphones an ipads - all the apps are free.
They use the freemium business model-get you hooked, especially on the games- and before you know it, you've spent real money, maybe $100 or more.
