WASHINGTON -- The federal government will conduct a nationwide test on
Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 2 pm ET of the Emergency Alert System.
CBS 47, FOX 30 and myTV Jacksonville as well as other on-air broadcasters, cable operators, broadcast radio and satellite radio will participate in the EAS test. During the test, which should last 3 minutes, all regularly scheduled programming will be interrupted with the test message.
Viewers should
not be alarmed because the alert is
just a test.
The Federal Communications Commission has scheduled the first nationwide test of the system to review the system's reliability and effectiveness. The EAS allows a U.S. president to address the American public in the event of a national emergency.
