JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Area homeless shelters and formerly homeless men and women will receive a generous Christmas gift from the Jacksonville Jaguars this year.

More than 2,000 articles of clothing were donated by Jags fans at EverBank Field on Sunday during a coat and clothing drive.

The clothing drive was initiated by Jaguars cornerback and Jacksonville native Rashean Mathis. The final tally on how many articles of clothing were received has not yet been determined because donations are still pouring in. According to the Jaguars Foundation President, Peter Racine, fans also donated $500 for the purchase of items that are not usually donated like underwear and socks.

The clothing will be distributed through agencies that support formerly homeless men and women who need clothing to re-enter the workforce. Children's clothing will go to area homeless shelters.
