JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Jaguars today were awarded rookie defensive end Gerald Rivers off waivers from St. Louis. Second-year guard Mike Brewster was placed on injured reserve after suffering a fractured left ankle in last Sunday’s game against Buffalo.
Rivers, 6-5, 258, joined St. Louis as a rookie free agent in 2013 and earned a spot on the opening day roster. He played in two games for the club where he saw action on defense and special teams before he was waived on Dec. 14.
A native of Ellenwood, Georgia, Rivers played collegiately at Ole Miss where he saw action in 27 games with 10 starts. He did not play as a senior but started five games as a junior and totaled 13 tackles. He played in 10 games with five starts as a sophomore. Rivers attended Cedar Grove High School in Georgia. He totaled 81 tackles, nine sacks and two forced fumbles as a senior.
