JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Alan Verlander, the city's executive director of Sports Entertainment, says London and Jacksonville are similar when it comes to sports.
"Soccer has grown here by leaps and bounds," said Verlander. "We're trying to tell them all we want to do with soccer here, and so they are paving the way for us and we are paving the way for them with American football."
London and Jacksonville, sister cities, telling each other's stories.
"We want to be a part of whatever is going on over there and we want to be a part of that bottled up over here," said Verlander.
It's already happening with the Jaguars playing against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday a Wembley Stadium.
Next year, Shad Khan's English soccer club, Fulham FC
, will be playing matches at EverBank Field.
Mayor Brown said Khan's vision is becoming clear.
"We have the best owner," said Brown. "It's a mission on and off the field to allow us to compete in the global economy in the 21st century," said Brown.
Khan's goal is to have a sporting event in London every weekend and pick and choose the events to bring back to Jacksonville.
