JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jaguars turn to the defensive side of the ball to begin Round 2 of the NFL draft.

With that pick, GM Dave Caldwell selected FIU safety Johnathan Cyprien. The Jaguars took offensive tackle Luke Joeckel in Round 1 on Thursday night.

More than 8,000 fans turned out for the draft party at EverBank Field to watch the Jaguars take Joeckel, who had been projected to go number one to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Joeckel is only the third offensive lineman taken in the first round in franchise history and 21st overall (Tony Boselli/#2 in 1995; Eugene Monroe/#8 in 2009). He played only three seasons of college football. He won the Outland Trophy in 2012. The award goes to the top offensive lineman in college football. He was the first Aggie in school history to win the award.

The Jaguars have 21-first round selections with 9 picks on defense and 12 on offense. 4 of those defensive picks were for defensive tackles. 4 of the offensive side of the ball went to wide receivers.

Joeckel is tied for highest pick in team history. The Jaguars picked Boselli with the second pick in the draft in 1995 and linebacker Kevin Hardy with the second pick in 1996.

Joeckel's twin brother plays quarterback at Texas A&M. His father was a 4-year letterman and 3-year starter as an offensive lineman at Texas Tech from 1979-82. Luke's older brother also played football on the offensive line at Depauw University from 2006-09.

The Jaguars have had a pick in the top ten for six straight seasons, the longest streak in the NFL.
