JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- I have to admit, I wasn't prepared for this story. To hear about a little girl so afraid she wouldn't even talk.
She didn't feel like she had a voice in this world, so she withdrew. "I would go to school with bruises, I was in kindergarten" says Angie.
But things changed with her baby sister, Savannah, was born. "Actually she taught me to talk, I wouldn't talk to nobody".
Once Savannah started talking, Angie gathered the courage to stand up and protect her baby sister from the turmoil around them. Eventually she would use her words to ask for a divorce from the only family she's ever known.
"I sat down with her and said you came to me and cried on my shoulder like I'm your mom. I'm not your mom, you're my mom" says Angie.
