JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- "It's my 9th year in the system, about to be my 10th,” 16-year old Johneshia tells me.

We're hoping this Jacksonville's Children's segment can help make it her last year in the foster care system. I first met Johneisha in 2009,  when she was first featured for our segment. Her smile is just as bright now as it was the day I met her. On our day out together catching up, she told me she's morphing. She's no longer a confused, frightened little girl.

"I think God put me in this position for a reason, me and my brothers and sisters, he's teaching us something,”she says.

Or, maybe someone anonymously called DCF to try and save her life.

"My mom was in an abusive situation,” she shares.

"You don't know what people have been through, kids get in the system they have nothing to do with it. Some been in their whole life,” she says.

Johneshia tells me her mother had several children and was pregnant with another, and was being beaten. When the call went out to DCF, the children were all taken and moved to different homes.

Not only does Johneshia want a family, she wants understanding, for herself and other kids in foster care. She tells me, she's more than the crisis--she's a human being who needs love and a nurturing environment like anyone else.

"You don't know what people have been through, kids get in the system they have nothing to do with it. Some been in their whole life,” she says.

She's hoping it's finally her turn to step forward for adoption. She refuses to give up hope there's a family out there waiting to bring her home.
