JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - We have a first, for today's Jacksonville's Children's segment. Latoya and Kashonti come as a package deal for adoption. Latoya is 17 and her baby, Kashonti is 9-months old.
"I look at her sometimes and think, she's mine!", says Latoya.
On our day our together, Latoya didn't hold back anything in our conversation. She says she got pregnant by her first love. She was looking for the care and attention she's always wanted. For now, she's putting dating on hold and concentrating on her child. She's taking parenting classes to be the mother she's never had herself.
"I want to prove to everybody who said I wouldn't be nothing. I will be something."
Latoya told me, she has it all figured out. She'll finish high school and then join the military. For now, she wants to be a good mother. However, she's hoping there's a family out there who will open up their home to two more. A young mom with a baby who needs the love and support every child (big or small) should have.
