JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Much to the surprise of kids, parents don't always have all the answers and they don't always make the best decisions.

The problem is, their children have to deal with the consequences, too. Sometimes it gets so bad that children have to be taken from their mothers and fathers. LizMarie is living proof.

"She was afraid of him I guess. She didn't want to say leave my house," says LizMarie of her mother and the abusive man she brought into their home.  The 13-year-old suffered years of abuse at his hands, and at the hand of other men who came in and out of her mother's life.  But one day, LizMarie and her siblings had had enough.

Her brother spoke up, called the police, and the children were taken to foster care.

LizMarie has had a failed adoption due to even more abuse. Foster care has been her safe haven. After a year, she's ready to try again. She's hoping finally she'll find a place where she belongs.

If you are interested in adopting LizMarie or any of the children you’ve seen on Jacksonville’s Children—pick up the phone and call Family Support Services.
