JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Maiya's life has had a heart-breaking start.
She's already had to come to terms with the fact her biological mother had to give her up for adoption because she wasn't strong enough to raise her children.
"She would go to her other friends and leave us behind. She would leave me in feces diapers and all kinds of stuff.”
When Social Services workers were tipped off, Maiya and her brothers and sisters were taken to foster care. She was only two. She's been on a carousel moving between foster homes ever since.
"I just want a place, that's like my own home. With a mom and dad to take care of me, and brothers and sisters I can count on,” she says.
Maiya is a little girl with a big heart and dimples to match. She's very bright and at 10, has a remarkable understanding about life so far.
