Senate District 8 seat

Seven candidates qualify to compete in a special election for the state Senate District 8 seat, formerly held by late Jim King.

Four Republicans were qualified and will compete in a special primary on Sept. 15.

• Former Florida House Speaker John Thrasher
• Jacksonville City Councilman Art Graham
• Duval County School Board member Stan Jordan
• Jacksonville businessman Dan Quiggle.

The district includes five counties, Nassau, parts of Duval, St. Johns, Volusia, and Flagler counties

Three of the qualified were write-in candidates.

• Alden Lawrence Antin Bryanton Jr.
• Robert Ratten
• John P. Rosso.

The special general election will be held Oct. 6.
