Jacksonville, Fla. - Kathy's bakery is located in the Park Place shopping plaza next to 'the dinosaur' at Beach and Peach in Jacksonville. They're having the grand opening... but according to the state inspection report the bakery already has 24 critical violations.

The inspector found a pan of pastries stored on a trash can, trash bags being used to cover bread, the handwash sink used as a dump sink, no handsoap at the sink (a repeat violation) and food stored on the floor including buckets of icing. You can see the full report by clicking here:

A week to the day after the original inspection a worker greeted us when we walking in the door. She told us she didn't understand English so she got the owner for us. He also told us he did not speak English and would need to call a translator. While making the phone call, he invited us into his kitchen.

We noticed food stored on the floor including buckets of icing. Before we could ask him about it... we were pulled out of the kitchen by his co-worker who grabbed my arm and was yelling at the owner - and us.

The owner asked us to wait to speak with his brother on the phone. While we were waiting we could see workers picking up the icing buckets off the floor. At that point several workers covered the kitchen windows with styrafoam.

Over the phone, the owner's brother told us the inspector gave them 60 days to fix all the violations and that they just opened a new business and are still getting things in order.

During our last few minutes with the owner, his co-worker told us she was calling the police. She then tried to push us out from behind the bakery counter. The owner shook his head... then shook our and welcomed us to come back next month.

He said, "Come back January 30th. Everything is OK, no problem."

Here are the other restaurants at the top of the list this week for violations:

Cafe Atlantico in Saint Augustine had 18 critical violations including dead roaches, roach dropping and eggs. You can see that report here.

At 3rd Street Diner in Saint Augustine they had 17 critical violations including no handsoap cleaner at the rear handsink. You can see that report by clicking here.

@lasky...It just pi$$e$ me to no end when business owners and employees of this country do not speak English! I cannot stand to go into a business to spend my very hard earned money, ask a question of an employee or owner, and get a look of confusion or shrug and smile. As much as I love freedom, I do not believe in foreigners of ANY nation, owning a home or business in a country other than their birth nation. ( That includes Americans buying property in another nation ) Live there? Yes. Own property? No. Work in the public light? Only if you speak the language.

A translator....A TRANSLATOR! How in the heck are we as citizens, to put our faith in businesses that have owners that cannot speak the language of our nation....The laws of this nation are written in English, yet some choose to ignore this as well....Not only are laws written in English, but the violations are too....Sounds to me like, more hardworking taxpayer guaranteed loan money down the drain....Note made of where not to go!
