Jacksonville, Fla. - Mi Tierra Spanish Groceries #2 is located on Beney Road in Jacksonville. It's a restaurant on one side and a grocery store on the other. We wanted to ask the owner about 16 critical violations the state inspector found including:
An employee prepping or making food without washing their hands
An expired license
No proof of employee training

We were told by a worker at the counter that there was no owner or manager on site. We asked, "Can you please give them a call?"
We were put on the phone with Nicolas, the owner, who kept repeating to us that he's, "working on it."
Nicolas gave us permission to look anywhere we wanted, on our own - including his kitchen. Once in the kitchen we didn't find anyone working on anything. We did find food left uncovered, buckets of liquid stored on the floor, dirty dishes and buckets still in the sink and some foods in the cooler that didn't look fresh.
Once again the owner told us he's "working on it".
Here are the other restaurants at the top of the list this week for critical violations.
At Mexicali Bakery and Restaurant on University Boulevard in Jacksonville, the inspector found 15 critical violations including roaches. You can see that full report by

At Saint Johns Golf and Country Club in Saint Augustine there were 13 critical violations including live tiny flies in the kitchen. Check out the
full report here.
Congrats to our only clean plate award of the week!
