Jacksonville, Fla - The manager at
Mizu Sushi on Old Saint Augustine Road says he wasn't there the day the state inspector came to look around. He wouldn't tell us his name but did allow us into the kitchen to see if it was clean. The inspector recently found 37 violations - 25 of them were critical including...
FISH BEING THAWED IN THE HAND SINK
EMPLOYEES USING THEIR BARE HANDS TO PREPARE FOOD
LIVE FLIES
We didn't see any of those specific violations but we did see raw chicken and shrimp on the counter being thawed in a colander which was sitting in a big bowl of water. We asked, "Is this a proper way to thaw out chicken?" The manager responded, "Oh my god. No, it's not!" We asked right away, "If the inspector was here right now would you get written up for this?" Visibly upset he replied, "Yes, I would!" We gave the manager a chance to explain but he complained of having a headache and then said this before he walked out the door, "I quit."
Dick's Wings in Jacksonville Beach was written up for 17 critical violations including...
