The tropics remain quiet overall. But long range forecast models are showing potential tropical development in the West or Southwest Gulf of Mexico in about one week's time -- near the middle of next week. A pretty stout upper level ridge should be in place across the Southern U.S. next week so if tropical development occurs, the system would most likely move west or northwest depending on the exact location of the upper ridge. Convection now in the extreme W. Gulf & along the Mexican coast are not related to this potential development.
