ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. -- A fiery, single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a Gainesville man and seriously injured two others along County Road 241, near Gainesville, Friday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A crash report states 42-year-old Gregory Higgins was driving a Dodge Ram when he overcorrected the pickup, forcing it to crash into a tree and to eventually catch on fire.

Troopers say a passerby helped pull the three victims from the inferno.

Higgins died on the scene while his wife
Raeann Higgins, 42, and passenger John McDaniels, 47, were reportedly taken to UF Health Shands Gainesville with serious injuries.

It is unknown what caused Higgins to lose control of the pickup, but the FHP does suspect alcohol as being a factor in the crash.

Troopers continue to investigate the crash.
