JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- 102-year-old Dora Krone passed away Wednesday after being struck by a car.

Police say Krone was attempting to cross the intersection of North Main Street and Sycamore with her walker.

The Chevrolet Lumina that hit Krone was driven by 84-year-old Lois M. Ponsell.

Charges against the driver likely will not be filed and police do not believe that speed was a factor in the crash.

The initial accident caused severe traffic, causing all of North Main Street to be shut down that afternoon..

It is very sad to think anyone caring for a 102-year old lady would allow her to go out & about ALONE and without protection. Anything could have happened to her, and it did. It is heartbreaking to know she was allowed to come to an end in this horrible way. I see there are no comments yet on this story. Even sadder...
