CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Coast Guard crews rescued two fishermen Saturday morning off the coast of Jekyll Island, Ga., after their 55-foot boat ran aground and began taking on water.

William Collins, 55, and Josh Carter, 25, were on board the Little D when their engine lost power and the ship began taking on water.

The two contacted emergency personnel via radio and simultaneously a boat from Coast Guard Station Brunswick, Ga., and a helicopter from Air Station Savannah, Ga., were launched to aid the stranded boaters.

A Georgia state trooper eventually spotted the boat offshore and notified the Coast Guard, who removed the two from the vessel by airlift.

Both men are doing OK and did not require medical treatment.

The Coast Guard is currently monitoring the vessel and making sure none of the 300 gallons of fuel leaks into ocean until it can be safely moved.
