22 arrested at local DUI checkpoint

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- The Clay County Sheriff's Office arrested 22 people at a local DUI checkpoint.

Officers were set up at 266 Blanding Boulevard on July 27, 2012.  Officers stopped 520 cars.

Six people were arrested on DUI charges.  There were 16 other arrests for offenses like Fleeing/Eluding, Felony possession of a controlled substance, Possession of drug paraphernalia, Possession of cannabis, Expired driver's license and a Warrant for arrest.

One man, Alphonso Smith, was arrested for fleeing the checkpoint, which resulted in a brief chase.  Police were able to take him in custody.  According to the police report, Smith was found with a large amount of cash and drugs.

The best part of the check point is those that got picked up for other than DUI. Good job Clay Co. Sheriff! We need more of there in Duval as well.
