JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to the scene of a shooting with multiple victims this evening in New Town.

They said the violence erupted about 4:45 pm outside a convenience store near the corner of Logan & Tyler streets.

According to the police, at least five adult males were taken to local hospitals with injuries. Witnesses told Action News that the injuries were not life-threatening and the victims ranged in age from 17 to 23 years old.

"I just heard the gunshots, came out, and saw them laying on the ground," said Levy, who asked that we not use his last name.

Some were Levy's friends, and some, he says, were his cousins. And according to him, all are expected to make a full recovery.

"Nothing is life threatening. The boys are still walking. The boys are still breathing," said Levy.

But as blue and red lights reflect down Charlotte Bowman's street, she can't help but keep an even closer eye on her two grandsons.

"I'm concerned about it, you know, especially in the broad daylight with all the kids out of school. I keep them close. I keep my grandboys close," said Bowman.

A description of a possible suspect was not immediately released.

If there was a legally armed citizen there, the suspect would've never gotten away and there would have been less victims.

What next? A gun fight at high noon? Where are these youths getting the firearms? What is wrong with a community that this is how some kind of dispute is "settled?" It get more ridiculous with each incident of gun violence. The police must be frustrated and "burned out" dealing with these call outs. I look forward to what the reason(s) are for this shooting.
