ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office has released the 911 call that led investigators to the discovery of human remains inside a charred car.
In the call you can hear a man having a hard time giving the operator directions to the secluded area where the car was found. The call offers some insight into the area known as Flagler Estates, whoever dumped the car wanted to make sure it was difficult to get to.
"My guys are working out there in Hastings, there is car burnt down in the middle of the road. It's on the side of a little dirt road right on the side of 13 and 204," said the caller.
Much of the 911 call is spent trying to explain the vehicle's exact location but one thing was clear to the caller, what he saw did not look like an accident.
"There is a car that is still smoking it looks like somebody burnt it down. I don't know if anybody is in the car or anything," said the caller.
The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office is still working to identify the human remains found in the trunk. According to investigators, the process may take longer than initially expected. The body is in such bad condition they'll need to dig through dental records or even extract DNA from the victim's bones to get a match.
