WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Richard Berman told a 911 dispatcher he was rushing to the home of his ex-wife and children after “she sent me an email that she did the best thing for our family and then she sent her cousin a text that she was going to kill the kids and herself,” according to 911 tapes released Tuesday afternoon.

Berman told the dispatcher he recalled his ex-wife had her dad’s old rifles in her house. But before the call gets much further and Berman awaits police and rescue crews, a neighbor entered the home, and in seconds yelled out that blood was on the walls.

At some point, despite repeated warnings from the dispatcher not to enter the home, Berman tells the woman that he too went inside and saw his son.

Clearly falling apart, Berman curses and says, “He’s not moving, there’s blood on his ear… I can’t believe this is happening.”

He relays that the neighbor, a woman, may have seen someone upstairs. And when the dispatcher asks “OK, did you see your son at all?” Berman replies, “Yeah, I was just all touching his head and he wasn’t waking up. His alarm was on and there was blood in his ear.”

At the dispatcher’s request, Berman puts the neighbor on the phone.

“I think the girl’s up in bed with her but once I got up there … I was up there I had to run back downstairs… he told me to come outside,” the woman said, adding that police had arrived.

Police have confirmed that when they did enter the home on Pershing Way they found Berman’s teenage son and daughter Alexander and Jacqueline Berman. A woman was also found dead in the home. Though police have not released her name, friends and family say the woman is Jennifer Berman.
