JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- A doctor's office was a virtual oven Monday after the A/C units were stolen over the weekend.
The air conditioner units were stolen from the Hyde Park Medical Center. Dr. Robert Lamounette is the clinic director. He went to the office Sunday to find a mess. "Looks like someone threw a hand grenade in the a/c. There are bits and pieces all over the building."
Two of his four air conditioners were stolen and a third was damaged. Police say a/c thefts, like the ones stolen from the clinic, are on the rise. According to JSO, there have been 774 incidents of a/c thefts since January of last year. Police say they steal either the copper or the entire unit.
While Dr. Lameounette is still treating patients, he's hoping to get things back to normal soon, and asking for the community's help to find out who is stealing the a/c. "Police can't be everywhere. Certainly tearing apart a/c is a reason to call police," said Dr. Lameounette.
Police say there are a few things you can do to protect your a/c unit. They make cages that will fit right around the unit. You can even get a GPS put in to track the location, if it's ever stolen.
