Accused child molester taken into custody
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- A suspect wanted for charges of molestation of a minor and sexual battery was taken into custody by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals on Thursday.
A warrant was obtained for the arrest of Charles Cook only within the past few days, according to Sgt. Catherine Payne with the Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities are not releasing much information about the actual case, except to release that it stemmed from a 2013 incident in the northwest section of the county.
Payne said Cook was apprehended without incident on Race Track Road, which is on the St. Johns/Duval County line. Because the arrest happened on the Duval County side, Cook was taken to Jacksonville for initial processing.
It is expected he will be brought back to St. Johns County to face the charges.
