JACKSONVILLE, Fla - More red light cameras are coming to Jacksonville, and they'll be turned on starting Monday.

Drivers traveling past the intersection of San Jose Boulevard and Claire Lane will see red light cameras put up north and southbound.

These cameras were tested throughout the weekend.

But we've learned even though they are up, you won't get ticketed just yet. Drivers will have a 30 day grace period.

While many people see these cameras are improving road safety others think they are not worth it.

"With the flashes that go on it could be very distracting." State activist Michael McGuire said.

With many red light cameras already put up in Jacksonville, locals say they changed their driving habits to adjust to them.

Action News is told if you see a white flash from the cameras at San Jose during this grace period, it's just a test.

No notices will be issued during this grace period.

Ask your local officials to provide the NUMBER of red light violation crashes at any of these intersections for the past year or couple of years, then again after an equal amount of time. Next, compare the two. This will help to tell you if automated for-profit law enforcement is effective for its desired purpose or not. You will likely find several of them have had no such crashes. Of course, if your local officials do this, they will be the first in Florida to do so. All others hide this data.

"After years of extensive research a method has been developed to avoid tickets at red light cameras. All you actually need to do is STOP at the red light. A concept foreign to many idiot drivers but highly effective. " I only have 2000 characters so I can't list the several examples of wrongly-ticketed vehicle owners that did NOT run a light and still got a ticket. Suffice it to say your solution is not foolproof. One of the "idiots", a 79 year old man, had his tag copied and even though the evidence showed it was not his vehicle he was convicted and paid the higher fine.

YAY, more phony tickets with gobs of bucks, headed out of town. This was such a good deal, whoever thought of it might be up for the Nobel Peace Prize. The part about cutting the yellow light down to nano-seconds really put it over the top.

Hey thefirstdiggit, I know why they don't put cameras in those locations, because it would just be something else Adolph Obama would want the rich and/or middleclass to pay for. Heck everyone knows the people who live in those areas don't pay their own bills, they suck the funds from the rest of the working class people in this country who make America strong.

Put red light cameras around the Town Center and they could balance the City budget because I see at least three or four people running red lights at multiple intersections every day. Why I almost got into a bad accident last Friday on Southside Blvd. from some a-hole in a black BMW 5 series who went beyond running a red light, he went through the intersection at a high rate of speed, almost hitting my truck head on when I had the green light. The good news for this jerk is I saw the office park where he turned into and one day I may still pay him or her a visit, not hard to spot a black BMW 5 series with darkly tinted windows. I started to follow them to their office on Friday but knew better since I was so angry, I most likely would have snapped their neck or worse. Then I do believe there are red light cameras at that intersection so maybe justice will be served without me breaking their neck.

Don't kid yourself..Any safety benefits are secondary to the "robot cop" system of taxing the citezen. Why don't these get installed in the Ghetto sections? NO MONEY MAN!
