GAINESVILE, Fla. -- One man was killed and a deputy was injured after a shootout at the Tower Oaks Glenn Apartments in Gainesville Saturday evening.

The Alachua County Sheriff's Office responded to the apartment complex after receiving a complaint about an assault and battery.

Deputies say as soon as they made contact with Recardio Clark, 33, he shot Deputy William Frank Williams with a handgun, striking him in the torso.

Williams was able to return fire, striking Clark several times.

The deputy was transported to UF Health Gainesville where he was treated and released.

Clark was pronounced dead at the scene.

Williams and Deputy Jake Skelly have been placed on administrative leave during the investigation, which is standard procedure during any officer-involved shooting

Investigators are still seeking the public's help on the incident. Witnesses are encouraged to call 352-955-1818, or Crimestoppers at 352-372-STOP.
