GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Alachua County School district reports they continue to make progress in the search for their next superintendent.

As a result of a series of meetings, the school board has determined that applicants for the position must have a minimum of 10 years successful administrative experience, experience in a district with more than 15,000 students, and most hold at least a master's degree.

The void in the superintendent position was created when Dan Boyd announced his retirement in September.

The school district intends to start advertising for the position in January and begin interviewing candidates in the spring.

The new superintendent is expected to be in place around July 1.
