ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. -- Parents of Alachua County Public Schools students now have the option of receiving critical information on the status of their child's school during an emergency.

The new text system will alert parents on school evacuations, closures and other vital information.

"The reality is that many parents use their cellphones for texting more than they use them for phone calls," said Public Information Officer Jackie Johnson.

Parents can sign up for the new alert system by completing the emergency contact form that will be sent home with every student during the first few weeks of school.

Again Fla schools don't allow children to have cellphones in classes. This is crucial when terrorism occurs, you have an insane teacher abusing students, or out of control bullies assaulting who they please in school. Saves the school systems billions, but will cost you your son's or daughter's life one day in a emergency. Can't have kids recording something or contacting their families in emergency. While hell they might learn like some the kids in that one shooting over seas that the police man is not a police man but the murderer.
