JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A family is fighting for justice in honor of a popular local youth pastor.
The Annis family is ready to put the Duval County courthouse behind them for good. More than a year has passed since they lost their son, Todd Annis, who was a popular pastor from Macclenny.
“To lose a child is a whole new level of grief,” said Thomas Annis, Todd’s father. “We've been cut short the opportunity for grandchildren."
Annis was killed September 2011 when he and his wife were driving home from a football game. His father, Thomas, says the family is still waiting for justice. “To me, the process has taken a lot longer than it should have."
Family members wore matching T-shirts in court Thursday to honor the volunteer chaplain and beloved youth pastor.
Police arrested 22-year-old Holly King a few months after the crash on charges of careless driving and driving with a suspended license causing death. Action News has learned, King racked up seven citations over the past two and a half years which included speeding, careless driving and no valid driver's license.
"She has a well-documented list of traffic citations and violations and she was rearrested four months after this accident caused a death,” said Thomas Annis.
Family members say King shouldn't have been behind the wheel that tragic night.
"Ultimately justice needs to be served. She needs to go to jail. She took a life from us we can never get back."
King was released from jail on bond in February. Jury selection in her case starts in two months.
