JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police are investigating the death of a Navy sailor after finding his lifeless body at the bottom of a pool around 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Action News learned the man was living on the Westside for just three months before this happened.
Tragedy has struck again in the Savannah Oaks Apartment Homes. JSO is investigating the drowning death of a 37-year-old sailor, identified as Martin Bediako.
"They had the tape up there already by the time I got there. I knew somebody was dead," said neighbor, Curt Gargarello.
Neighbors say this isn't the first time red tape has gone up. One man tells us there have been at least three deaths in the past three years.
"A Navy Chief got shot during a house robbery. He came home and got shot. A male got shot in the apartment over there on Christmas night. I guess there was also a murder in my apartment, but I don't know much about that one," said neighbor, Ray Parrish.
Now neighbors are anxious to find out how this sailor came to his death. Investigators believe he'd been in the water since Monday night, especially after talking with neighbors who say they heard activity around that time.
"They didn't say there was any screaming or yelling, they just said they heard people around the pool. I guess they heard the water, maybe the fence opening and shutting. I don't know if it was unlocked or not, I'm still looking into that. It's too early to tell right now," said homicide detective, Sgt. Dan Janson.
Action News reached out to NAS Jax, to find out more information about this sailor. They tell us they're still waiting to get details from police.
