JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A cell phone app is allowing you to track where your spouses every move.
It's something most of us probably carry with us all the time, our phones. While GPS tracking can come in handy for some cases, not everyone we talked to agrees there should be an app to track when and who you send texts to and sometimes, even record who you're talking too.
There's already 30,000 plus apps for your phone, but get ready to add a another one. This time, it's to track your spouse. "No way, that's crazy," said Courtney Kline. Kline can't believe something like that even exists. Action News found the tracking app on the iPhone. You can download it for just five bucks.
It promises to track your spouses every move. Kline says it'll just cause more problems in marriages. "It'll just make people like women, even more crazy," said Kline.
Here's how some of the apps work. You have to get your spouses phone and install the software, and then activate an account only you can check. Then, the app will transmit GPS coordinates to that online account and give you real time GPS coordinates of your spouse. That worries people we talked too. "I don't want people tracking where I go, what I do, places I go into," said David Ivey.
But beware, apps like these are illegal according to attorney Dale Carson. "Somebody who takes the phone, like an iPhone, puts the app on it, is violating the law," said Carson.
There are a few ways to find out if you're being tracked. You want to ask yourself these questions, is the battery on your phone draining more quickly, are you getting higher bills and has your phone been out of your sight for any length of time.
We did some research and some of the apps you can download, do come with a warning saying their software is not for use on a phone you don't have proper permission to use. Carson says you could face stalking charges.
