JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The golden arches stand tall at the corner of East State and North Market Street in downtown Jacksonville.

It's fully equipped with digital menu boards, free wifi, and interior designs of local Jacksonville scenes. A new development welcomed by those who live and work nearby. "It's good. We've been here 2 days in a row. So I love it," says Jacksonville resident Devon Hitch. "It's needed because the closest one is 8th street. Whoever owns this is right on time because business is going to be booming," says Jacksonville local Larry Parker.

David Mullins Jr. and his dad own 18 McDonald's restaurants in the Jacksonville area. Mullins says he is excited for the business opportunity to have a store downtown. "There's definitely a lot of sales potential we believe and we obviously want to be in the forefront of helping out Jacksonville and the downtown growth."

Mayor Alvin Brown joined Mullins and Ronald McDonald today for the official ribbon cutting. He says he's pleased for new downtown business. "It shows that we have momentum, that small business and entrepreneurs believe in downtown, want to invest in downtown and [this] allows more people to work downtown," says Mayor Brown.

Sixty people will have jobs at this store to be exact. Mullins says he expects that number to grow in the next few months. "So far it's hit projections and exceeded those projections, if it continues to do that, then obviously, there will be a need for another location," he says.

McDonald's isn't the only business opening in downtown. A Family Dollar store is in the works for across the street.
