Arlington SWAT incident ends in surrender
JACKSONVILLE (ActionNewsJax.com) -- A man who held law enforcement authorities at bay for several hours surrendered peacefully Monday after negotiating with SWAT officers and the evacuation of at least 10 families from their homes in the Arlington neighborhood.
No injuries were reported from the incident, which began around 5:30 am at a home in the 12000 block of Woodsage Court. Law enforcement authorities said a 38-year-old man apparently opened fire in the residence but it was not clear what prompted the shooting.
The suspect's mother and father managed to leave the residence but the man had remained inside the residence. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office SWAT team was called to the scene and began negotiating with him in order to get him to surrender, Sheriff's Department Lt. Mike Beckman said. Authorities said the incident ended about 9:15 am.
Authorities said the man may be suffering from mental issues.
